We work to make sure that their needs are met by establishing and strengthening dedicated programs and services for everyone living with disabilities and their families.?Our goal is to connect with our national and international communities to ensure help, inclusion, compliance, and to design strategies that directly address their specific needs.<\/p>\n<p>Such programs encompass early child development, education, social protection, appropriate healthcare needs, jobs, reproductive health, community building, urban mobility, accessibility, disaster management; accessible transportation and travel; accessible and affordable housing; employment; competent legal services; sanitation; safe and clean water; inclusive tourism; technology and assistive devices; HIV\/AIDS, inclusive faith-based activities.<\/p>\n<p>Why is it so important? Persons with disabilities, particularly children, youth, girls, and women with disabilities are the most marginalized and excluded segments of the world population.<\/p>\n<p>Persons with disabilities continue to be marginalized, overlooked, and excluded in their community life. They are not able to participate in the development of their environment through continuing stigma and lack of education of the general population.<\/p>\n<p>Statistically, you know someone in your family, community and\/or workplace that have a disability.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to the WHO and the World Bank Group, over one billion people have a disability in the world.<\/li>\n<li>The estimated number of children with disabilities between 0- and 18-years ranges between 93 million and 150 million. (WHO-World Bank).<\/li>\n<li>Approximately 300 million women around the world have mental and physical disabilities. (Human Rights Watch).<\/li>\n<li>Every minute, more than 30 women are seriously injured or disabled during labor. However, those 15 ? 50 million women generally go unnoticed.? (World Bank).<\/li>\n<li>Depressive disorders account for close to 41.9 percent of the disability from neuropsychiatric disorders among women compared to 29.3 percent among men. (WHO).<\/li>\n<li>There are over 220 million young persons with disabilities worldwide. (UNFPA).<\/li>\n<li>The overall literacy rate for persons with disabilities worldwide is 3 percent, and for women and girls with disabilities, it is 1 percent. (UNESCO).<\/li>\n<li>Less than 2 percent of children with disabilities attend any form of school. (UNESCO).<\/li>\n<li>Less than 5 percent of young persons with disabilities have access to education and training. (UNESCO).<\/li>\n<li>As many as 6.5 million of the world?s 43.51 million people displaced by conflict have disabilities.
