Over 50 million people in the United States have mild or severe disabilities. According to research, nearly 50% of these people aren't meeting the guidelines for the ideal amount of recommended physical activity. However, there is a distinct lack of disability sports programs in various communities.
Having a disability not only prevents people from going about their daily lives but can also increase their likelihood of contracting various diseases and developing different health issues. Physical activity can greatly reduce the risk of diseases and musculoskeletal issues. At DIDEPAS, we are working to ensure there are accessible sports programs for disabled persons to ensure they get proper physical exercise to boost their health and wellbeing.
Regardless of the kind of disability a person has, physical activity offers several important health benefits including:
- Increased production of serotonin and other mood-boosting hormones
- Increased flexibility and muscle strength
- Stronger immune system
- Decreased risk of osteoarthritis and other debilitating diseases

Our adaptive sports and recreational programs help disabled persons enjoy various wellness, social, physical, and health benefits.
We also arrange competitions and disabled sports events to encourage more disabled persons to take up physical activities and to raise awareness of the benefits of healthy activity for disabled adults and children.
With the increasing number of organized sports for the disabled, we have divided our programs into three broad categories:
- Sports for the hearing impaired
- Sports for the physically disabled
- Sports for the intellectually disabled

At DIDEPAS, we consider sports as the perfect platform to implement strategies of adaptation, awareness, and inclusion to help people with disabilities transcend social, cultural, and linguistic barriers. Disabled people that have been excluded from society and community can feel like part of the team and become empowered by realizing their potential through our sports programs.
